Preparing for a Negotiation Workshop

The biggest mistake most ineffective negotiators make is assuming that they can be successful during a negotiation because of their persuasive gifts or the power of their position. The truth is that the more negotiators assume they know how a negotiation will go, the more likely it is that the negotiation will blow up in their faces.

There is no substitute for thorough, insightful, detailed preparation if you really want to succeed during a negotiation. Our one-day Preparing for a Negotiation course, a distillation of some of the key elements of our acclaimed Two-Day Advanced Negotiation course, will give you an overview of the best practices for preparing for every aspect of an upcoming negotiation. Our experienced negotiation training instructors will coach you through a proven preparation process that will enable you to objectively assess your situation, compare it to that of the other side and develop effective strategies to help you reach a Win Win outcome.

On-Site Training: can be tailored to the needs of client organization and delivered on-site at time and location of client choice.

Objectives:

Participants will learn to:

  • Plan and prepare for any type of negotiation scenario.

  • Design negotiation strategies based on the negotiating styles of all participants.

  • Assess the strengths and weaknesses of all players who are or who should be involved.

  • Design strategies to respond to all the issues that are or could be on the table.

  • Find ways to uncover and respond to the real underlying issues that are driving the negotiation.

  • Develop a set of effective options and strategies to use in case the negotiation is unsuccessful.

  • Estimate and plan strategies to take advantage of the most likely ranges of agreement during a negotiation.
