Don teaches sales and management courses
and has consulted with both major and small companies
in transformation and technology solutions for Baker
Communications. Mr. Lewis has led numerous projects in
organization redesign, process improvement, and
strategy development. Geological services,
high-technology manufacturing, graphics design, marine
services and energy services constitute some of the
industries where he has consulted. An outstanding team
facilitator, Mr. Lewis works equally well with both
senior management and front-line staff. During a recent engagement with a $15
million geological services company, Mr. Lewis led an
effort that rationalized an outdated accounting system
and created over $100,000 in cost improvements in 2
months and identified an additional $500,000 cost
improvement that could be realized within the
following 18 months. Much of the savings came from
re-engineering accounts payable and receivable, with
further improvements in the purchasing and document
control areas of the company. Other engagements
involved creating new value-added processes for a
graphics design firm, an offshore services firm and
for a large printing firm.
Through the late 1990s he ran a $100,000,000 high
technology manufacturing business providing tools and
support to the petroleum services industry and during
the 1980s, he led design and development teams to
create new technology solutions for the worldwide oil
drilling industry. He did extensive work with
suppliers to help them improve their overall quality
and planning processes. In the late 1970s, he directed
a special products unit of a high-reliability
microelectronics manufacturer.
Mr. Lewis has developed, written, and published
over 15 articles and case studies on business
improvement. He has also created and taught business,
management, and technology courses.
Prior to working with Baker Communications, Mr.
Lewis worked as a Vice President of Manufacturing for
the Sperry-Sun Drilling Services Company. In addition,
he has held several management positions including
Manager of Repair and Maintenance for NL Industries
and Manager of Special Products for MicroPac
Industries, Inc.
He has consulted in a number of major companies,
including Oceaneering, CalDive International,
Dresser/Roots, TerraTherm, Gas Research Institute,
Reilly Industries, Cambe Geological, Sabre
Technologies, and Marathon Oil Company, among others.
