Jim
Sheridan, Senior Consultant
Jim has had a full range of experience in
the sale and marketing of oilfield equipment and
technology through his employment with Occidental
Petroleum, Sperry-Sun, and Halliburton.
Jim was the Director of Sales and Marketing for
Sperry-Sun when it made the dramatic move from being a
$40 million/year oil well surveying company to
becoming a major force in the directional drilling/
measurement-while-drilling (MWD) industry with current
revenue of $1 billion/year. Over the past 10 years, Jim has
specialized in marketing Sperry-Sun and Halliburton
oilfield technology to the emerging markets of Russia,
China, and the Caspian region.
He initiated the Siberian Sperry-Sun joint venture
in Neftyugansk in 1991 and lived in Moscow from 1994
till 1997 while he hired a cadre of Russian engineers,
trained them in the Sperry-Sun technologies and sales
techniques, and managed them to success. With these
salesmen, Sperry-Sun came to dominate the
directional/horizontal drilling equipment market in
Russia.
Jim used the same tactic in China, managing Chinese
technical salesmen trained in Sperry-Sun technologies
and sales techniques to dominate the Chinese
directional market.
Recently, Jim was the Worldwide Business Manager
with full P&L responsibility for Halliburton’s
$40 million/year Surface Safety Valve business,
engineering a turnaround in revenue from a 30% decline
to a 10% growth within one year.
