Trainer

H. Lon Harper is the former Judge of the 185th State
District Court of Harris County Texas, where in four
years, he presided in over 280 felony jury trials,
including death penalty cases, and thousands of other
felony criminal cases.
Judge Harper was correctly reputed to be the
toughest Judge in Texas and sent the largest number of
convicted felons to the Texas Prison System (TDCJ) for
the longest sentences of any Judge in Texas. At the
same time, Judge Harper was the Judge most likely to
offer drug defendants alternative treatment programs
and offer other defendants alternative sentences to
reduce overcrowding of the Texas Department of
Criminal Justice.
Harper sits as a State District Court Judge at the
request and assignment of the Administrative, County
and District Court Judges of the State of Texas. In
this capacity, Judge Harper has selected capital
murder juries for sitting District Court Judges and
has conducted many other criminal trials.
He has completed extensive mediation training at
both the University of Houston A.A. White Dispute
Resolution Center and the Advanced Family Law
Mediation Course at the South Texas College of Law.
With this training and over 24 years of experience he
far exceeds all the requirements of the Texas Civil
Code as a State of Texas Qualified Mediator.
Harper has been fully and extensively trained by
Baker Communications, Inc. to instruct all of the
Baker Communications Training Programs.
A fifth generation Texan, H. Lon Harper is a
descendent of pre-Civil War Texas settlers, including
a Civil War Era Texas Ranger and an early Texas Judge
in Hamilton County.
H A National Merit Scholar and a National
Debate and Public Speaking Champion, Harper was a Plan
II Scholar at the University of Texas at Austin.
He has a B.A. in Political Science from the
University of North Texas and a Juris Doctor from the
South Texas College of Law.
Admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1976, Judge
Harper has been a Law Enforcement Officer, a Lawyer
and a State District Judge.
He currently is a Judge, sitting by Assignment, a
State Qualified Mediator and a Baker Communications,
Inc. Programs Training Instructor.
